As John Lennon so famously said “there are no problems, only solutions”.
I had a problem and needed a solution. My right knee had been identified as requiring a replacement by two local NHS orthopaedic surgeons. The first surgeon advised me in November 2019 that he could perhaps operate in September 2020. The next surgeon I approached later that November gave me a date in February 2020 but a suitable prosthesis could not be found in time and then came COVID 19.
Now there was more than one problem.
Research on the internet gave me the promise of a solution. Application through the auspices of the ever-helpful Maja, the coordinator for a EuroTreatmed Polish Clinic, required that I send her the appropriate medical records. When these were approved by the medical team it meant that I could choose a date at my convenience for my operation. I then made a successful application to the NHS for approval for reimbursement for the medical care and operation.
From the moment I entered the Polish clinic, the care and medical attendance that I received was fabulous.
The surgeon Dr Wojciech Pawlak (I nicknamed him “Teddy Bear”) was so attentive and frequently visited me post-op to check his handiwork and my progress. The nursing staff (Kate, the head nurse, the two ward nurses each called Renata) were always there with suitable medical care at the press of a button. Joanna, the Clinic’s Manager, acted as interpreter to the surgeon, made sure all the paperwork required for discharge was correct and listened to the patients and their experiences during the two weeks stay. Finally, the two physiotherapists, Łukasz and Tomasz, who both had encouraging words and disciplines, enabled me to make far greater progress than anyone would imagine.
Diet is particularly important during a stay in hospital and the preparation of breakfast and evening meals by the nurses and the lunch menu selection from the local hotel ensured that I had just the right food at the right time. Every day there was a large selection of fruit which I devoured with relish.
I have promised to return to the Clinic for my left knee replacement if I cannot get an operation in the UK through the NHS. That I think underlines my confidence and complete satisfaction at the treatment I have received.
After suffering multiple major knee injuries within the space of a couple of years, my consultant in the UK aswell as myself agreed surgery was the best option. Due to being young and active, this treatment was important so I could play football again.
Understandably, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the waiting lists on the NHS were long and uncertain. Because of this, I decided to look at receiving treatment abroad.
Upon an initial online search, EuroTreat Med stood out as a professional and dedicated organisation. After an enquiry email, I received a very informative response explaining the schedule of stay, treatment and aftercare I would receive.
Maja was always on hand to answer any query or question I could think of (and there were a lot). She helped me to book flights/ special assistance and surgeon statements, well beyond her call of duty. There was never an issue too big or a problem that couldn’t be solved.
I flew out at the end of Nov 2020 to receive the treatment. The staff at the Sanvimed Hospital were extremely welcoming and friendly. There was 24/7 assistance with a member of staff only being seconds away if help was required. The surgery itself was successful and in the following days the surgeon himself visited to check progress multiple times a day. As well as this, I received some great early physiotherapy sessions that are really helping with my recovery. All staff were faultless and it really felt they all had the patients best interests in heart.
Overall a very positive experience that I would recommend to anyone looking to have treatment abroad 🙂 Once again a big thank you to maja and the staff for a great service.
Arranged Hip replacement for my Brother-in-law. He had been in great pain and mostly immobile for many years.
I cannot praise the whole process highly enough. From help with form filling and information gathering & travel arrangements before departure to airport pickups, Covid Testing on arrival and of course accommodation, food and nursing care. It was all wonderful. We will be returning for the second Hip Replacement in the next few weeks.
Can’t say enough good things about the standard of care. Much higher standard than any NHS facility I’ve been to. The food was amazing. The people were amazing, I don’t know what they’re paying Maja, the international patient coordinator, but it’s not enough. She took me through every step of the process and did everything that was needed for the NHS refund application. I signed my name a few times, put my details in and read everything over but other than that I barely lifted a finger. I had a left knee arthroscopy for a meniscus tear i got in kickboxing sparring. Since I’ve returned I’ve recommended the clinic to every one of my teammates who I know have knee issues and I know another one of my teammates is doing his paperwork as we speak. Not all of the nurses and surgeons speak perfect English but were still extremely friendly and welcoming. You don’t need to speak English to be a medical professional and I had a much higher standard of care and hospitality than any UK medical facility.
Was put on the NHS waiting list in January after going through the motions of physio and Cortisol injections, at that point the wait was circa 9 months for a consultant and additional 4 months for surgery.
By July the pain was so bad that i was basically housebound so drastic action was required.
Researched the possibility of private treatment in the UK but costs were prohibitive so decided to cast the net to Poland where i came across Eurotreatmed.
Initiated a conversation by email with Maja who was amazing and gave all the information about the treatment and after care available.
Sent X-rays and medical information and discussed the type of prosthesis used by the consultant.
After digesting all information decided that Eurotreatmed was a clinic that put Patient care at it’s core and therefore the decision to apply for treatment was a no brainer.
Within 2 weeks of discussion arrived at the hospital for my appointment.
First day was tests Covid19 and blood as well as discussion around the procedure and time of operation.
Consultant Wojciech Pawlak performed surgery and the procedure went very smoothly with no pain.
I would get to know the consultant very well during my stay as he would visit every day to check on the new knee and answer any questions (where else would this happen in the UK?).
But now the hard work, had to begin i.e. the Physiotherapy.
To get the knee operating and recover quickly then daily physio is required to build up the muscle to support the new knee as well as flexing and bending to initiate normal operation.
Thankfully the cost also consists of 2 weeks physio with on-site physiotherapists that enable a daily schedule and support you through the difficult days post op.
The guys are brilliant and motivate you to stick to the programme and get back to health quickly.
Last but certainly not least a fantastic team of nurses who are absolute gems looking after you at all hours.
Pain relief , daily bandage changes and the food they deliver certainly keeps you healthy and strong very your daily physios.
The whole team work as one unit and all give you 24 Hour care through the whole process which can be frightening for a lot of people.
Now been back home 2 weeks and walking without crutches and very little pain.
Full expect that within 6 weeks of surgery will be back walking and driving with no pain whatsoever.
Thank you Eurotreatmed without you i would still be waiting another year for the surgery at home.
Best regards to all
James
I have had many operations in the UK including a full knee replacement. But none come anywhere near the professional standards I received at Sanvimed Zaborze under the surgeon Dr Pawlak. All the nurses and medical staff were extremely friendly and professional. Maja is like the best friend you never knew you had, she’s like the glue that keeps it all working together. Hopefully, I can return for my other knee replacement.
It’s difficult to put in words, but right from the initial contact and hand-holding throughout the whole process (Maya you are a star *) coupled with the great doctors, nurses and facilities at Sanvimed there is nothing we can fault.
Attentive, caring and so friendly makes what appears daunting to the average person, is in reality, a real breeze ! Also don’t expect to lose weight while away, you are treated to 3 meals a day, snacks and treats.
I would highly highly recommend to anyone and have not stopped singing their praises to my friends since my return.
Thank you again EuroTreatMed and Sanvimed
Jean Buck – October 2021 (Age 85 – Hip Replacement)
My Experience by Stuart Roberts – Horticulturist North Wales
As soon as I enquired about the hip replacement, I felt quite comforted that the person introducing herself was both professional and reassuring.
I was looking for a way to get treatment for my painful hip condition and having heard that the waiting list on the NHS was a matter of years, not months, and discovering that the prices to go private in the UK were over £10,000 and the aftercare was less than a week, I took to the internet to discover what my options were.
As I was doing my research, I found hope and a possible solution by reading further into the web site that to me looked quite promising. That web site was EuroTreatMed https://eurotreatmed.co.uk/
It was so easy to use the web site and to enquire about the treatment that I felt so anxious about.
I began by filling in a simple form which was a quick and FREE consultation. I then received a reply within hours of my enquiry from the patient coordinator Maja Swinder.
Every step from then on in, I was kept informed and guided through the process of applying for treatment in Poland where every single question was answered quicker than I get replies from my friends and family and was left with complete confidence in the whole process through Maja’s skilful command of the English language and her efficiency. I dwelled on nothing and had answers to everything within hours and sometimes minutes.
It was a full two week package in which I was supplied with three meals a day in an en suite room complete with fridge and kettle and a constant supply of tea, coffee and always a full fruit bowl. Within the package is the accommodation and meals for a partner or companion so at no extra cost you can have company throughout the whole two weeks.
Also in the care package is physiotherapy everyday and constant monitoring by the nurses and quite often the surgeon himself would visit to see how the recovery is advancing.
After the operation I was returned to my room and then realised that apart from the wonderful surgery, my needs would be met within seconds. This continued for the whole period that I was there and this care was indeed 24hrs a day every day. The recovery from your surgery is done at your pace and is skilfully assessed daily.
There are no worries about the language barrier either as the nursing staff have a pretty good handle on the English language and Maja is always contactable by phone via many ways such as Whatsapp, Messenger etc… and she will be in direct contact with the Surgeons and nurses alike.
To conclude, I would highly recommend that this is the correct path to take if you’re looking for total professional care, complete with an aftercare that just cannot be beaten, with the most experienced physiotherapists that I have laid eyes on. I would also like to thank them for their professional conduct too. From start to finish I couldn’t have imagined how much admiration for the whole team that I would bring home with me and I don’t believe that better care is available elsewhere.
Flights to Poland are also very reasonable and you are transferred to and from the airport. Also all of the restrictions and changes that occur during the Covid crisis are constantly monitored by Maja, who will keep you up to date with the latest information and organise everything that needs to be achieved for your safe return.
Thank you all for your care and attention
Best Wishes
Stuart Roberts
After being told I would have to wait 2years for a full hip replacement at 52 and being in dreadful pain and no quality of life, I decided to google other options and came across Eurotreatmed. I emailed them and within 3hours I heard back from Maja who is the international patient coordinator and from then onwards my mind was put at ease with the professional attitude she delivers and the contact care and attention she shows towards you. Maja is the HUB of this clinic who answers any questions re the operation, to travel to covid tests eg. She is a GEM and became my friend throughout my stay.
I met with Doctor Wojciech Pawlak on the morning of my operation who speaks very little english but extremely friendly and has a team around him that can translate for him. Operation was successful and for the next two weeks myself and my mum couldnt of been cared for any better than the staff did. We were looked after morning til night.
I had physio daily with Lukasz and Tomasz who were so encouraging and gave me such great feedback and disciplined me aswell, this enabled me to make much greater than progress than I ever would of over in the UK with the NHS.
Overall my experience with the clinic is 100% and I have since recommended this clinic to many friends in the UK and I wouldn’t hesitate to visit again. This clinic is far superior to any clinic in the UK and has a higher care standard and hospitality than I have ever experienced.
I would like to thank again Maja, Joanna, Kate and the two Renata’s who were so professional and such lovely friendly nursing staff who my stay stress free and I didnt have any fears whatsoever and a special shoutout to the male nurse who was just a joy to be around.
Many thanks for everything and giving me my life back.

What can I say !!
I had a total left hip replacement from the moment I made an enquiry up until my discharge I can honestly say it was the most excellent, professional and best decision I have ever made.
Maja who dealt with everything for me from answering every question I asked, arranging airport pick up,making sure I was always made aware of what was going on and she even arranged for all my toiletries to be in my room on arrival.
This young lady is a rare person she does her job with such a passion making sure you are stress free and happy at all times.
The hospital is very clean and well run with highly qualified surgeons who before your operation visit you and introduce themselves then after the operation they also visit you regularly to make sure you are OK and have any questions.
The nursing staff are wonderful especially Kate always happy with a smile and nothing is ever to much trouble.
My physiotherapy was excellent very attentive and all questions asked where answered and explained.
In total honesty it really was the best decision and if I have anymore problems I will not hesitate to return here they are totally professional dedicated caring people.
A huge THANK YOU from me this operation totally changed my life .❤❤

Good evening. Now that I am back at home, I want to thank you and everyone at Sanvimed for the treatment, care and support received so far for my hip replacement operation.
To the surgical team, so very ably led by Dr Pawlak, the anaesthetist team, the nursing team (Carolina, Renata, Marius and Renata), the physio team, the support and admin team (Joanne, the cleaning staff and the receptionists) / collectively and individually your support has been exemplary. If I have forgotten anyone, my apologies.
Rest assured that, once my hip is ok and I can deconflict from work, I shall return for that much-needed replacement of my right knee.
Thank you all so very much.
Dave
Like everyone else who has reviewed this hospital, I have found the level of care and surgical expertise outstanding. All staff are friendly and couldn’t do enough to make a patient feel comfortable; meals are superb and a mere 7 days since my first hip replacement I’m climbing stairs, walking almost unaided (having used crutches for 6 months) and in almost no pain thanks to daily physio. Maja, the patient care co-ordinator is exceptional in her role as travel facilitator, from advising on flights and pre- op requirements to popping to the shops for emergency dry shampoo! I had worried about having an operation abroad. Now, I can’t wait to come back and have my second hip replacement in a few months time. I only wish I’d stopped hoping the UK waiting lists would shrink faster and just got on that plane!
The pre surgery tests, surgery and post op care was excellent. Overall I fully recommend all aspects of this service.
I now have a new hip and can walk again.
Maja had organized everything involved with the logistics from start to finish and made the whole trip and experience very successful, including a private taxi service to pick and drop you to and from the airport to hospital, which was included in the price so you had nothing to worry about.
Maja arranged for me to arrive on the Wednesday at sanvimed hospital, where I was admitted to my own private room with an en suite which also had an extra bed to allow a family member to stay with me. I had knee surgery on the Thursday which was performed by the excellent Dr Pawlak and his team.
For the operation I had a local anaesthetic, which allowed me to watch the procedure on a screen, and involved the removal of lots of loose bodies (pieces of broken cartilage) which were floating around my knee and getting stuck, cartilage shaving and meniscus repair.
The aftercare that I received was excellent from the brilliant nurses, who were always available and they provided 3 excellent meals everyday, to the amazing physiotherapist who got me on my feet and walking on crutches the next day. The physio came everyday and gave me confidence and new excersises to keep performing to help strengthen up my knee.
Maja also came everyday to check how I was doing and if I needed anything, right up to even when I arrived back to the Uk to make sure I was ok to even checking I had my stitches removed.
I was discharged on the Sunday to return home to Uk and was given all receipts and medical reports in English. It’s been 2 weeks since the operation now and recovery is going great and I’m already walking without crutches now.
I would highly recommend Eurotreatmed, and I would like to say a big thanks to Maja and the whole team at sanvimed hospital for their kind hospitality for hosting me in Katowice Poland.
(…) My son found them online and from the moment he spoke to Katarzyna (Kate) we found them extremely courteous, professional, efficient and very helpful, from beginning to end. Aged 68 I have been wearing glasses for over 40 years. I developed cataracts in both eyes with my right eye very bad and with no vision from it at all. The NHS here said I would wait 4 years for treatment and the likelihood was I would end up blind before I would receive the treatment.
I live just outside Belfast and travelled Dublin to Katowice just a very short time ago. I had the procedure done with no problems at all and was back home in the “blink of an eye” glasses-free!
Kate booked my accommodation ordered taxis and helped make my experience a delightful one so a very big thank you to her and everyone at the clinic. If you are considering treatment abroad I highly recommend Okulus Plus.
I previously had a consultation with Optical Express in Belfast who quoted me £10.700 for the same treatment which I received from Okulus Plus at a fraction of that price!
My husband needed a full hip replacement and we made the decision to travel to Poland to have the operation. Public Health Wales were so unhelpful and ignorant of the process but thankfully in comparison, the Eurotreatmed coordinator, Maja, was absolutely wonderful, so helpful knowledgeable and helped us through a difficult time globally to get to the hospital safely. The staff at the hospital were so efficient, friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Spending two weeks in one room could be very unpleasant but it wasnt, thanks to the wonderful staff. The surgeon who did the operation was brilliant and made sure, that everything was ok, visiting regularly, to check the wound. My husband, thanks to the brilliant physiotherapists Lucas and Thomatz, is way ahead of expectations in his recovery. We can’t thank you enough. Mr and Mrs Taylor
I went with my brother on January 23rd 2021 for a hip replacement, everything was handled excellently. I would totally recommend EuroTreatMed to everyone looking for a hip replacement abroad!
I found out I needed a knee arthroscopy in Ireland and the waiting time was too long. I looked into EuroTreatMed and reached out to Maja who was able to help me plan a surgery very quickly. The process was very simple, everything from contacting the surgeon to arranging transport and special assistance at the airport was looked after. I arrived in Poland and was picked up by the driver who dropped me to the clinic. The first step was getting tested for COVID and then my surgery was the next day. The surgeon was amazing and very reassuring about the surgery as I was nervous going in. The whole staff was great and looked after my very well and kept me company while my family stayed in Ireland. I would definitely recommend the clinic and staff to everyone! A massive thank you to Maja who helped me arrange everything and the whole staff in the hospital!
EuroTreatMed provides an exceptional service that is easily 5 Star, and immediately comparable to the absolute best medical care in any country across the world.
I travelled from Belfast with my father who needed shoulder surgery. Maja was extremely helpful with everything… from providing the background of the surgical team through to booking the covid tests and travel information.
My background is in the medical sector (both UK & US) so I am very familiar with the procedures and risks involved, and the various levels of service provided. Although I think it’s natural for some people to feel a little anxious about travelling for surgery, I would certainly suggest they reach out to Maja and consider the time & cost savings when comparing outcomes to srugery in the UK and the US.
Overall, the experience was fantastic. I would be very doubtful that a better service could have been provided in the UK or US, yet this was carried out both much quicker and at a fraction of the cost by EuroTreatMed.
Specifically, my fathers operation was carried out at Sanvimed by Dr Pawlak and his very professional team.
Dr Pawlak (& team) took time to chat with my father and made him feel very comfortable about the procedure. He also took time to go through the outcomes after the surgery to set realistic recovery goals and to help my father understand what (& why) various procedures were used.
Also, it would be a mistake to not specifically mention the constant care provided by the nursing team. It was really above and beyond… the actual nursing service, general advice, breakfast/lunch/dinner… all fantastic.
P.S. I didn’t take many photos, but there is a nice walk around some little lakes nearby, so while my dad recovered I was able to spend some time there.
In summary…
– EuroTreatMed (5 Stars)
– Maja (5 Stars)
– Sanvimed Hospital (5 Stars)
– Dr Pawlak & Team (5 Stars)
– Nursing team (5 Stars)

Coming to Poland for my hip replacement was a great decision. The care, kindness, professionalism and expertise I have experienced has been wonderful. I have received expert physio input daily after my operation with films to take home to support my continuing recovery. The surgeon Dr Pawlak looked in on me nearly everyday to check my progress and the healing of the wound. There was an extensive menu to choose from and 24 hour care with nursing staff that are just lovely. Maja and Carolina communicated so well about anything I had concerns about. They made sure I settled into the hospital and checked regularly to make sure I had all that I needed. I feel so nurtured and ready for the flight home and the rest of my recovery journey. You have changed my perspective of what a stay in hospital can be like. I highly recommend to this hospital to anyone that needs this type of operation. Thank you all so much, you have been amazing!
The staff and hospital were brilliant, professional, and very dedicated, it was a great experience, I can not praise them enough.
I would highly recommend this hospital to anyone thinking of having a hip operation.
Best wishes to you all.
I was 100% satisfied with the services of EuroTreatMed in arranging, organising and overseeing my PAE procedure in Katowice two weeks ago. I had previously had elsewhere in Poland private dental and physiotherapy services, so was confident that although EuroTreatMed was new to me, I would find good quality prostate treatment there. Maja Swinder their Patient Coordinator has very good command of both written and spoken English, and there were no language barriers with her. In my opinion, she has also excellent customer care skills.
I was in the clinic for three nights, and have needed about a week back home to fully recover.
Overall, including travel costs, the price was substantially below that in the UK.
I would use EuroTreatMed again for elective treatment in PolandThe treatment provided by Dr Ludyga was excellent and throughout the more than two hours while sedated I experienced no pain. I aim to see him again in about a month to discuss results.
In the clinic care was good though my basic Polish was not quite enough. My wife stayed in a hotel close by and could help me with basic tasks, bring in towels (not routinely supplied), different food etc. If a patient does not have family or friends near the clinic, a travelling companion is highly desirable
